The sky has always been there. Perhaps what changes is the way we learn to look at it.

For centuries, humanity has turned toward the stars, searching for meaning in the movements of the planets, the changing seasons, and the endless cycles of the Moon.

Astrology emerged from this relationship between humanity and the cosmos: a symbolic language through which people have explored identity, relationships, timing, and the mysteries of existence.

But astrology is not simply about knowing your zodiac sign or reading your monthly horoscope; it invites a deeper question:

What can the patterns of the universe teach us about the patterns within ourselves?

At VICEDOMINI, we approach astrology as a language of reflection rather than a fixed prediction of destiny. Your birth chart does not have to define who you are. The phases of the Moon do not have to determine your choices.

Instead, these ancient symbolic systems can offer new perspectives, encourage self-awareness, and invite you to reconnect with the rhythms of your own life.

Because sometimes, looking toward the sky is simply another way of looking within. And perhaps the most meaningful discoveries begin when we become curious enough to listen.

What Is Astrology?

Astrology is an ancient system that studies the positions and movements of celestial bodies — including the Sun, Moon, planets, and stars — and interprets their symbolic relationship with human life.

At the heart of astrology is the idea that the sky can be read as a map of patterns and cycles.

One of the most familiar parts of astrology is your zodiac sign, often called your Sun sign. It is determined by the position of the Sun at the time of your birth. But this is only one piece of a much larger picture.

An astrological birth chart, or natal chart, represents the position of the Sun, Moon, planets, zodiac signs, and astrological houses at the moment you were born. Together, these elements create a symbolic map that astrologers use to explore different aspects of personality, relationships, emotions, challenges, and personal growth.

This is why two people who share the same zodiac sign can experience themselves very differently. Astrology is a conversation between many, and you do not have to see your birth chart as a set of instructions written in the stars.

You can approach it instead as a mirror.

A way of asking:

What patterns do I recognize in myself?

What parts of me am I still learning to understand?

And what might I see differently if I look from another perspective?

In this way, astrology becomes less about predicting what will happen next and more about becoming curious about what is already unfolding within you.

Understanding Your Birth Chart

If your zodiac sign is one word in the language of astrology, your birth chart is the whole conversation.

Also known as a natal chart, it is a snapshot of the sky at the exact moment and place of your birth. It maps the positions of the Sun, Moon, planets, zodiac signs, and astrological houses, creating a pattern that is unique to that moment.

At first, a birth chart can look complicated, such as a circle filled with symbols, lines, and unfamiliar signs. But you do not need to understand everything at once.

A beautiful place to begin is with what astrologers often call your Big Three: your Sun, Moon, and Rising sign.

● ● ● ● ●

☉ Your Sun Sign — The Self

Your Sun sign is the zodiac sign most people already know. In astrology, it represents your core identity, sense of self, vitality, and the qualities you are learning to embody.

Think of it as the part of you that says: This is who I am becoming.

● ● ● ● ●

☾ Your Moon Sign — The Inner World

Your Moon sign speaks to your emotional landscape — your instincts, needs, reactions, and the parts of yourself that may not always be visible to others.

It can offer a language for understanding what makes you feel safe, what you need emotionally, and how you naturally respond when you are not trying to be anything for anyone else.

If the Sun illuminates who you are becoming, the Moon invites you inward: What does my inner world need?

● ● ● ● ●

↑ Your Rising Sign — The Way You Meet the World

Your Rising sign, also called your Ascendant, is the zodiac sign that was rising on the eastern horizon when you were born.

In astrology, it is associated with how you approach life, how you instinctively meet new experiences, and the energy others may first encounter in you.

It is sometimes described as the way you present yourself to the world, but it can be deeper than appearance alone. Think of it as the doorway through which you enter life: How do I move through the world around me?

● ● ● ● ●

Beyond the Big Three

Your Sun, Moon, and Rising signs are only the beginning. The planets in your birth chart are traditionally associated with different areas of human experience. Venus, for example, is connected with love, attraction, and values; Mercury with communication and thought; Mars with action, desire, and drive.

The twelve astrological houses add another layer, representing different areas of life — from identity and relationships to creativity, home, career, and personal transformation.

Then there are the relationships between the planets themselves, known as aspects, which astrologers interpret as another layer of the chart's story.

Put together, these elements are what make a birth chart far more individual than a Sun sign alone. But perhaps the most important thing to remember is this: Your birth chart does not have to be a box.

It does not need to tell you who you must become, whom you should love, what career you should choose, or what your future will look like. Instead, you can use it as a space for curiosity.

Notice what resonates, question what does not, explore the patterns you recognize, and leave room for your understanding to evolve. Because a map can show you the landscape, but you are still the one walking the path.

The 12 Zodiac Signs

The zodiac is made up of twelve signs, each representing a different expression of energy within astrology.

You might recognize yourself strongly in your Sun sign or perhaps not at all. That is because every birth chart contains many signs, planets, houses, and relationships between them.

Rather than seeing the zodiac signs as twelve fixed personality types, you can think of them as twelve archetypal languages. Each carries its own qualities, challenges, rhythms, and ways of experiencing the world, and each belongs to one of the four elements: Fire, Earth, Air, or Water.

Together, they form a cycle.

● ● ● ● ●

🔥 Fire Signs — Aries, Leo & Sagittarius

Fire is associated with action, passion, courage, creativity, and movement.

Fire signs remind us of the part of ourselves that wants to begin, express, explore, and come alive.

♈ Aries: Aries carries the energy of beginnings. Bold, instinctive, and driven by movement, its archetype asks: What would happen if I had the courage to begin?

♌ Leo: Leo speaks of creative expression, confidence, warmth, and the courage to be seen. Its archetype asks: What happens when I allow myself to shine?

♐ Sagittarius: Sagittarius looks toward the horizon. Associated with exploration, meaning, truth, and expansion, its archetype asks: What lies beyond what I already know?

● ● ● ● ●

🌿 Earth Signs — Taurus, Virgo & Capricorn

Earth is associated with stability, embodiment, patience, resources, and the physical world.

Earth signs bring us back to what can be built, nurtured, experienced, and made real.

♉ Taurus: Taurus carries the energy of grounding, sensuality, stability, and value.

♍ Virgo: Virgo notices what others may overlook. Associated with discernment, service, improvement, and attention to detail.

♑ Capricorn: Capricorn speaks of responsibility, structure, perseverance, and long-term growth.

● ● ● ● ●

🌬️ Air Signs — Gemini, Libra & Aquarius

Air is associated with thought, communication, ideas, perspective, and connection.

Air signs invite us to question, exchange, understand, and see beyond a single point of view.

♊ Gemini: Gemini carries curiosity, movement, communication, and the desire to understand through exchange.

♎ Libra: Libra explores relationship, harmony, beauty, balance, and the space between self and other.

♒ Aquarius: Aquarius looks beyond what already exists. Associated with individuality, innovation, community, and new perspectives.

● ● ● ● ●

🌊 Water Signs — Cancer, Scorpio & Pisces

Water is associated with emotion, intuition, sensitivity, memory, and the unseen inner world.

Water signs invite us beneath the surface — toward what we feel, sense, remember, and sometimes struggle to put into words.

♋ Cancer: Cancer speaks of emotional safety, belonging, care, memory, and home.

♏ Scorpio: Scorpio moves toward what is hidden. Associated with intensity, intimacy, transformation, and regeneration.

♓ Pisces: Pisces dissolves boundaries between imagination, intuition, compassion, and the unseen.

● ● ● ● ●

You Are More Than One Sign

Astrology becomes much more interesting when we move beyond the question: “What is my zodiac sign?” and begin asking: “How do these different energies live within me?”

You might have the Sun in one sign, the Moon in another, and your Rising sign somewhere completely different. Other planets may introduce even more zodiac energies into your birth chart.

You are not expected to fit perfectly into one description, and you were never meant to be reduced to a single sign.

The zodiac is not twelve boxes asking you to choose where you belong. It is a symbolic circle — twelve different ways of exploring the human experience, and your birth chart brings those languages together in a pattern that is entirely its own.

The Four Elements in Astrology

Fire... Earth... Air... Water... Four elements, four different ways of moving through life.

In astrology, every zodiac sign belongs to one of these four elements. Together, they represent different qualities of experience: how we act, ground ourselves, think, connect, feel, and intuit.

These elements are energies that exist together. Your birth chart might contain a strong presence of one element, a balance of several, or very little of another. Astrologers sometimes look at these patterns as one way of exploring which qualities may come naturally and which ones may invite greater awareness.

Rather than asking “Which element am I?”, astrology offers a more interesting question: How are the elements moving within me?

● ● ● ● ●

🔥 Fire — The Energy That Moves

Aries · Leo · Sagittarius: Fire wants to move. It is indeed associated with passion, instinct, creativity, courage, enthusiasm, and the desire to experience life directly.

Fire energy can be the spark behind a new idea, the confidence to take a risk, or the inner force that says go before every detail has been figured out. In fact, when Fire is flowing, it can bring inspiration, vitality, and momentum.

When it becomes overwhelming, that same intensity may turn into impatience, impulsiveness, or burning through energy faster than it can be restored.

● ● ● ● ●

🌿 Earth — The Energy That Grounds

Taurus · Virgo · Capricorn: Earth wants to make things real, and it is associated with stability, patience, the body, resources, practicality, responsibility, and our relationship with the physical world.

Earth energy reminds us that dreams often need roots before they can grow. It can appear in the patience to build something slowly, the desire for security, the care we give to our bodies and surroundings, or the commitment to keep showing up long after the initial excitement has passed.

When Earth is flowing, it can offer grounding, consistency, and a strong connection to what is tangible. And when held too tightly, stability can become resistance, rigidity, or fear of leaving what feels familiar.

● ● ● ● ●

🌬️ Air — The Energy That Understands

Gemini · Libra · Aquarius: Air wants to know, and it's indeed associated with thought, language, communication, curiosity, ideas, relationships, and perspective.

Air energy allows us to step back, observe, question, exchange ideas, and imagine another way of seeing something. It lives in conversations that change our perspective, questions that lead somewhere unexpected, and ideas that connect things we once thought were separate.

When Air is flowing, it can bring clarity, openness, communication, and new perspectives. When the mind becomes too loud, however, thinking can turn into overthinking, detachment, or an endless search for an answer that may not exist only in the mind.

● ● ● ● ●

🌊 Water — The Energy That Feels

Cancer · Scorpio · Pisces: Water wants to feel, and you could associate it with emotion, intuition, sensitivity, memory, imagination, intimacy, and the deeper layers of our inner world.

Water energy moves beneath what can always be explained logically. It can appear as empathy, an instinct we cannot quite explain, a memory that still carries emotion, or the ability to sense what remains unspoken.

When Water is flowing, it can deepen compassion, intuition, creativity, and emotional connection. And when emotions become overwhelming, however, sensitivity can make it difficult to separate what we feel from everything happening around us.

● ● ● ● ●

When the Elements Meet

To be honest, no element exists entirely on its own. In fact, Fire may create the desire to begin, Earth can give that desire form, Air can help us understand and communicate it, and Water can reveal why it matters to us.

One is not more spiritual, powerful, or valuable than another, and balance does not necessarily mean having an equal amount of all four elements in your birth chart.

Sometimes, the elements that feel less familiar can become some of our greatest teachers. You might naturally move through life with Fire but discover the wisdom of slowing down through Earth.

You might understand the world through Air while learning to trust what Water asks you to feel, or perhaps you move instinctively through emotion and are learning when it is time to turn feeling into action.

The elements do not tell you what you are missing. They offer another language for noticing how you move through the world... and where you may be invited to explore something different.

Because perhaps balance is about learning when each of the elements is asking to speak.

Moon Phases and Their Spiritual Meaning

The Moon is always changing and, over approximately 29.5 days, it moves through a complete lunar cycle — from darkness to light and back again.

For centuries, cultures and spiritual traditions around the world have observed the Moon as a marker of time, change, fertility, agriculture, ceremony, and renewal. Today, many people use the phases of the Moon as moments for reflection, intention-setting, release, and personal rituals.

Each phase carries its own symbolism and offers a different point in the cycle to pause and ask: Where am I now and what is ready to move with me?

● ● ● ● ●

🌑 New Moon — Begin

The sky grows dark, and a new lunar cycle begins. The New Moon is often associated with beginnings, intentions, possibility, and turning inward.

This can be a quiet moment to consider what you want to create, invite, or give your energy to during the cycle ahead.

● ● ● ● ●

🌒 Waxing Crescent — Choose

The first light begins to return. The Waxing Crescent is associated with intention, direction, and the first steps toward what you want to create.

Ideas begin asking for action. Even a small movement can give an intention somewhere to grow.

● ● ● ● ●

🌓 First Quarter — Act

Half of the Moon is illuminated, and the First Quarter Moon carries the symbolism of movement, decisions, and challenge.

This is where intentions meet reality. Obstacles may reveal what needs adjustment, commitment, or courage.

● ● ● ● ●

🌔 Waxing Gibbous — Refine

The Moon continues toward fullness. The Waxing Gibbous is associated with refinement, patience, and preparation.

Progress is already happening. This phase offers space to observe what is working, make adjustments, and continue with greater awareness.

● ● ● ● ●

🌕 Full Moon — Illuminate

The Moon reaches its brightest point.

The Full Moon is traditionally associated with culmination, illumination, heightened awareness, and completion. What began earlier in the cycle may become clearer here. Emotions, patterns, achievements, or unresolved questions can rise into awareness.

It can be a powerful moment to acknowledge what has grown and what has finally become visible.

● ● ● ● ●

🌖 Waning Gibbous — Integrate

After the Full Moon, the light slowly begins to decrease.

The Waning Gibbous, sometimes called the Disseminating Moon, is associated with gratitude, integration, and sharing what has been learned. This phase creates space to absorb the experience of the cycle before deciding what you want to carry forward.

● ● ● ● ●

🌗 Last Quarter — Release

Half of the Moon is illuminated once again, now moving toward darkness.

The Last Quarter Moon is associated with release, reassessment, forgiveness, and letting go. Habits, expectations, commitments, or emotional weight may become easier to recognize here.

● ● ● ● ●

🌘 Waning Crescent — Rest

The lunar cycle approaches its end.

The Waning Crescent invites rest, surrender, reflection, and closure. Energy turns inward. There is less to chase and more to integrate before the next beginning arrives.

● ● ● ● ●

Following the Lunar Cycle

The Moon moves through the same phases again and again: begin, choose, act, refine, illuminate, integrate, release, and rest... Then begin again.

Following the lunar cycle can create a simple rhythm for checking in with yourself. You may journal at the New Moon, reflect on what has surfaced at the Full Moon, release something during the waning phases, or simply observe how your own energy changes throughout the month.

You decide how deeply you want to work with it.

Go Deeper With the Moon

Want to bring the lunar cycle into your own spiritual practice? The VICEDOMINI Lunar Guide takes you deeper into the phases of the Moon, with guidance to help you understand their symbolism and consciously explore each stage of the cycle.

Working With the Lunar Cycle

You do not need an elaborate ritual to connect with the Moon. Start by paying attention and noticing the phase above you, what's happening around you, and within you,

Over time, this simple practice can reveal rhythms that are easy to miss when life moves quickly.

Here are a few ways to bring the lunar cycle into your spiritual practice.

● ● ● ● ●

🌙 Keep a Moon Journal

Choose a few moments throughout the lunar cycle to write.

Record the Moon phase, your emotions, energy, thoughts, dreams, challenges, and anything that feels significant.

You might begin to notice recurring themes over several cycles. Try asking yourself: What am I feeling today? What is taking most of my energy? What keeps returning to my awareness? What am I learning about myself

There is no need to find a pattern immediately. Let your observations build over time.

● ● ● ● ●

✨ Set Intentions

The New Moon can offer a natural moment to decide where you want to direct your attention, so choose one or two intentions that feel meaningful for the cycle ahead.

Keep them specific enough to guide you and open enough to evolve, and write them somewhere you can return to later.

● ● ● ● ●

🌕 Create a Full Moon Check-In

Use the Full Moon as a monthly moment of reflection and look back at the previous weeks and acknowledge what has happened... including what you may have overlooked while living through it.

You could journal, meditate, sit outside beneath the Moon, pull a Tarot or Oracle card, or simply spend a few minutes in silence.

● ● ● ● ●

🕯️ Create Your Own Ritual

A ritual can be simple. Indeed, you can simply light a candle, burn incense, cleanse your space, hold a crystal, take a bath, sit beneath the night sky or even write something you are ready to release and safely let it go.

Choose actions that carry meaning for you. Repeating a ritual at certain points in the lunar cycle can create a familiar space to slow down and reconnect with yourself.

● ● ● ● ●

🌘 Make Space for Rest

Spiritual practice does not always need action.

The final days of the lunar cycle can be a reminder to slow down, finish what needs finishing, and restore your energy. Leave something unscheduled, sleep, reflect, spend time away from noise, and allow an ending to be an ending before deciding what comes next.

● ● ● ● ●

Follow Your Own Rhythm

You might connect deeply with the Full Moon and barely notice the First Quarter. You may love rituals, prefer journaling, or simply enjoy looking up and knowing where the Moon is in its cycle.

Your practice can change with you: start small, observe, and keep what feels meaningful. The Moon will complete another cycle. You have time to discover your own way of following it.
